PTAC units provide heating in the winter months and cooling in the summer months.

Depending on the type of PTAC unit you have we have a few recommendations.

If  your PTAC is 5 years or older and is experiencing issues with cooling or heating you need to first determine the source before spending any money.

What type of PTAC do you have?

For Heating:

GAS Heat, Electric heat, Heat-pumps, Hydronic heat, Water sourced heat, Steam heat.

For Cooling most units will have a compressor with Freon inside for Cooling.

If the problem is with the heating, you need to make sure its not an issue with your buildings heating supply, talk to the building attendant.

If its a Gas fired PTAC than the most common issue is from the Corbin monoxide detector.

In most cases, if you do have a service call on the PTAC and they recommend replacing any major part of the unit, in most cases if the PTAC is 5 years or older you should replace the entire unit, repairs can be on average $700 or more for a simple compressor, if the PTAC has more issues later down the line you will need to spend more money on fixing it, therefore your best option is, if the repair is 40% or greater than the cost of a new PTAC you should buy a new unit.
